Track Day..

So on the 15th of September I had a track day booked in at Anglesey Circuit with Javelin Trackdays. This was meant to be a day of training with my driving coach Chris Dymond in my mk2 Renault Clio. But as most project cars and living up to it’s nickname (Sh!tBox), when it came to load the car onto the trailer what do you think happened!? It wouldn’t start! An electrical gremlin made itself known and decided to make the immobiliser kick in! Even though the car had ben fitted with a gizmo to bypass the immobiliser before I owned it, I’d never had an issue with it before but of course the day before the car is actually needed it just says “No, not for me. I’m not going anywhere!” We spent HOURS trying to get the car going, but it just wasn’t having any of it. In the end I made the decision to take my Daily, a 2013 Mini Cooper S Diesel. Yes I was a bit embarrassed taking a sporty tractor out on track with a driving coach but as always the little car powered through. The car took all the punishment in it’s stride and after a full day on the track I drove it the four hour journey home as well.
This was the first time I had ever been on a track day and I was nervous. It was such a relief to have Chris with me, He was absolutely brilliant all day. I was afraid that I would be absolutely horrible at racing, and thought I would be in the way and holding everyone else up on the track. As we know the race track is an aggressive place, and when your a complete novice and a female I felt terrified of everyone else. Chris helped me a lot and gave me confidence that I’m not too bad at driving, that there’s a decent base there we just need to fine tune and polish it up.
I can’t wait to book in my next track day and coaching session. Preferably in the Clio! So it looks like I have to track down and evict an electrical gremlin. Here’s to hoping it wont be too hard to sort out.
